Glad you followed your dream, Jim. Never let the spectators stop you, 'cause they ain't in the water, they are on shore watching and telling you what you should do. Forget them, follow your dream. I'm glad to see you have.

Boys! I hardly recognised you at The Ferry. It was a big mistake going for all that new Botox stuff. You'd looked great - not a crease to be seen. But I think it must have affected your fingers and vocal cords. Just didn't sound anywhere near as good as usual.
I'll be back when it's worn off.

Thanks VG for the appreciation. The Halos are always thinking of others, especially at this time of year.In fact many have called us 'The new Cliff Richards',or 'The Santas of The North'!
It's interesting that the lady you mention has chosen to respond below in ancient Greek. This may tax even a man of your classical background.I am assured, however, that a (very)rough translation would be,'gerritrightupyeyyabawbag!',which I understand to be an old Scottish term of endearment, although I may be wrong.
Thank you again for your support.

What a thoughtful bunch of young chaps The Halos are indeed. In recognition of the approach of Christmas and all the stresses that come with it, their gigs are now including a more than welcome Xmas present-buying slot. Don’t know about anyone else but I dread this time of year; pushing through the throngs and queuing in the likes of HMV, in fact HMV itself. Usually it takes almost half an hour to get to the front and buy those traditional record/dvd vouchers for the hoards of family – at least 3 or 4 of the things every year. Then it’s off home exhausted. How Mrs G seems to take weeks about all is beyond me.
At S Dow’s last night the half time break gave opportunity to buy The Halos new single ‘Eyes Open Wide’. Brilliant it is too and a real bargain! So it’s win-win all round for me at least. No trip into the city, no hassle; and, though it’s hard to imagine, those grateful recipients will be even more overwhelmed by my thoughtfulness. Thanks fellas !
Aside from all that commercial stuff, the band was in my humble opinion as hot as ever. The solid rock-like consistency of their consistently solid Rock is an ever present and uplifting pleasure.
It has to be said, however, that not everyone at the gig was in top form. A cloud of foreboding seemed to permeate the atmosphere at moments through the evening. I don’t want to point the finger at anyone, or be in anyway unkind, but it was that woman with blond hair, dressed in a red top. Is it the new Landlady? Or was it someone from the Health & Safety Anti-Fun League?
What was all the fuss about? Well, it seems that on the back wall there is a traffic light sound level indicator. Seems The Halos were in the red zone too often and for too long. Maybe I’d accidently put my ears on inside out because to me the red light coming on seemed at times to be unrelated to the volume level. It was a little distracting, even to the audience, to have this person flapping up at this thing, sticking a finger in one ear and miming turning an imaginary volume knob down. MJ stood his ground thankfully, only to have the blame thrust upon his throbbing bass. ‘Oo-er Missus’ as Viz may report it.
If I was queuing up for her pressie it wouldn’t be for a voucher. If I had to give her one, a pressie that is, it would have to be The Spinal Tap dvd. I am confident that a little instruction in the true meaning of live rock, and of knobs that go up to ELEVEN, would resolve the issue.
Meantime, pending resolution, maybe The Halos will be forced to turn it down to ten.
In fairness, maybe she was only worried about our collective hearing. So if she ever asks me if it was me who wrote so flippantly about her, I’m going tell her straight, ‘Pardon...?’
Final score,
The Halos 11 v Sammy Dows Lady In Red nil.

Jim, I hope not to lower the journalistic tone of your guestbook, but when are you guys playing next ?
Big Willie Shand and myself are desperate to join the Haloic Cognoscenti....do we get robes and stuff? If not we can bring our own.

Nice to see The Halos with such an intellectual and well rounded group(bevvy?)of reviewers.Particularly as I know for a fact that one of them was on nodding terms, nay, a close friend to several Beatles!
The end of 'Eyes Open Wide' was not a mistake,Vaughn,(Stevie Ray Grace?)but a new 'jazz'arrangement JK had forgotten to tell the others about!Thank you all for you kind words, and if you all buy the new single we could be No.1 !!(In Clarkston)
Also a BIG hello to my cousin Trish in the colonies! She's older than me,but looks about 16 !

O’Neill’s in Glasgow’s Merchant City is far from being the easiest Friday night venue for any band, even one as good as The Halos. Partially populated by an itinerant noisy, dare I say inebriated jabbering throng, it takes some considerable presence and aura to break on through to the other side. This particular casual observer has witnessed two of these recent events and how different they were. The first was a slight struggle, but by the break the completely disinterested had moved on to their preferred destinations leaving room, both physical and aural, for the remaining congregation of aficionados of good live music. The second half rocked as a result of this mini exodus balanced by an influx of more enlightened revellers. The quality of performance was equally as excellent at the second event but the crowd were on better form from the off and totally up for it. If the measure of brilliance is judged by the quality of audience participation then this gig hit the spot. Writhing, swaying air guitarists and bopping former aspirants to Pans People were on open display. So too was communal singing of familiar rock hymns, thankfully drowned by the power play and top quality vocals of the band.
Nobody can be faultless all the time and some sensitive ears may have briefly heard an unusual chord sequence at the end of ‘Eyes Wide Open’. Even Eric Clapton has said on occasions – ‘oops’. But this only served to prove by contrast how brilliant the rest of the performance was. I can only imagine it was committed by JK in the time honoured fashion of school teachers caught in apparent error – ‘just testing’.
Speaking of EC, this is a band which seems to have bypassed the traditional dilemma of how to cover a classic number – do you do a straight copy or your own version? Paradoxically The Halos are as good as and better than the originals. And we are talking about the likes of Cream, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, The Kinks, R.E.M., Spooky Tooth, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix to mention just eight. ‘Sultans Of Swing’ by Dire Straits would have got a mention but they didn’t play it on this occasion.
JK takes over the vocals for the superb Rory Gallagher numbers ‘What’s going on’ and ‘Laundromat’. MJ introduces such interludes with reference to ‘Uncle Jim’. Brilliant renditions they are too they are so don’t be misled by such an avuncular image.
He is after all not so much ‘Uncle Jim’ but ‘The Super Daddy of Rock’.
When the tee-shirts go on sale for ‘The Haloic Cognoscenti’ (God! Wish I’d thought that one up!) - make that two extra large please!

Nice & Sleazy - 4th Sept 2008.
A chosen test bed for original material .A gathering place for The Haloic Cognoscenti – a growing mass of contenders for the # 1 fan top-spot.
The air-con turned way down low – essential preparation for the hot blast of cultured rock that was on the menu, and then delivered in the now customary, faultless, exemplary style from Messrs Keilt, Jenkins & Hadden
This could, in fact should, be the start of something greater. If success and reward ever match talent and endeavour the those aforementioned disciples will know, world without end, that the Gods Of Rock will have spoken.
Let it be. Let it be.

The Busby, 9th August 2008.
The Halos, with their complete Rock & Blues , one-man, fully functional, hands on, human museum - Mr Keilt - rocked and ,er, bluesed the night away.
If I could find suitable words to describe how brilliant a night we all had - would I be able to actually speak them? Some would doubt it.
Everyone was knocked out by how brilliant you all were.
Jim, Martin, Craig, thank you so very, very much from all of us.
Spreading the word.

Just exploring. Not too struck on much modern music but your stuff is unusual in that the lyrics can be heard. Drumming is also a dying art so it is a wee buzz to hear someone who knows a taradiddle from a paradiddle.

Let's put this to rest.
This is not a test bed for 'Freedom of Speech',this is a small boy(or girl)hiding behind a big wall, calling names.
If you wish to test freedom of speech, feel free to sing Celtic songs outside Ibrox on matchday, not in The Halos guestbook!
The Halos are always up for constructive criticism, indeed we welcome it,but we have no wish to listen to abuse.
I suppose I could defend my band mates but truly their talent is self-evident(although your not obliged to enjoy it).I will only say that The Halos is the best band I have worked with.We encourage and inspire each other in our music, and have a good laugh on the way.If playing pubs is our limit,so be it.(I'm 54,what do you think I'm going to do?Join the Kaiser Chiefs?Wait for Jimmy Page to die?
The sad thing about all this is our multi-named 'critic'would appear to be known to us.Do I have a friend who is this sneaky?Yuck!
Finally, feel free to exercise your freedom of speech.Meanwhile we shall exercise our freedom of action and clear your petty little comments from our page.
(And don't do it again Mum!)

Glyn, The halos must be pleased they have a dedicated
champion sutch as yourself fighting their corner.
Debate is a good thing but obviously not everyone
shares the same opinions or musical tastes and that
keeps life interesting. Our time on this mortal coil
would be pretty dull if we coulden't exchange diffirent
views no matter how much they may offend others provided
they are valid, even if a little crude at times.
there has obviously been a few ruffled feathers out there
who don't like what the have seen or heard. Whether
this gives them the right or not to voice their
displeasure in the way they have, It just goes to
show people are watching and listining. That must
be a good thing

Allison, I don't think I was trying to gag anyone, control them or sanitise their views. My main intended points were that I disagreed with the somewhat needlessly personal criticisms and the inappropriate and unnecessary tone they were expressed with. I also disagreed with some of the musical opinion of named posters.
I accept the point about being up for scrutiny and I'm sure the Band members are big enough to take it all on the chin and prove the detractors to be wrong.
I don't wear rose-tinted specs for this or any other Band no matter how big or small. I just happen to believe that these guys are exceptionally talented and I love the style of music they play.
The main point I tried to make in my light-hearted suggestion (hence the word perhaps) was that I really don't like nasty personalised critcism posted anonymously. It is simply cowardice to do such a thing. I'd have more respect for the negative views if the authors had the bottle to put their names to their comments. Moderation would simply be a way of weeding out the anonymous gratuitous insults.
It was a thought. That's all. As simple as that.

Been reading with interest the comments, although
some a little strong,in guestbook and in particular
Glyn Phillips attempt to sanitise the opinions of
others,no matter how much he disagrees with the,
is rather controlling to say the least. What happened to
freedom of speach. To retain a sence of balance
you must refrain from gagging orders. Finally if
one puts themselves up for scrutiny they must
also learn to roll with the punches. After all are
they not trying to find a broad appinion of their
work and not just that of their friends through
rose tinted glasses.

Don't know what inspired, or should that be conspired, the recent flurry of negativity. Some look like the same grudge-holding anon (=cowardly)person in various guises.
Couldn't disagree more with the comments.
Overall consensus is - great vocals and great instrumental work.
Time to moderate the guestbook perhaps.
Keep the anonymous cloth-eared riff-raff out !
